OurStory

Wanyana People (PTY) LTD is a young company, not only in terms of people but also in terms of its drive, attitude and determination. The company commenced operation and chose Wanyana People (PTY) LTD as the label for what we hope will become the forefront of cultural and purely South African company.

The name ‘Wanyana’ began as a nick –name (meaning ‘girl’) that reflected the inner and possibly true being of one of the managing ‘Makhulus,’ Vanessa Rodrigues, and has now become the ‘trade mark’ of the company. Wanyana believes in giving people the freedom to make money, allowing them to be their own brand. Working efficiently and effectively, and using wanyana as a platform to do this.

Wanyana People is made up of two divisions:

As a young girl growing up in South Africa Vanessa always connected emotionally and mentally with the diverse South African people. The ‘Makhulu Wanyana’ obtained a B.A Marketing Degree from RAU and worked at Party Design for 6 years gaining experience in the event industry.

Vanessa started Wanyana Projects in 2007, when she noticed the gap in the market for efficient, hardworking event staff. The company has worked on many signficant events including the Presidential Inauguration, Soccer World Cup and All Africa Games.

Vanessa also started an Espresso and Fuel Bar at Northcliff Crossift called Cafe Fanoca in 2019. The bar was created from an obsession for drinking great coffee. The name FANOCA comes from her 3 sons, Faris - the Knight, Noah - the ark, Cairo - the conqueror.

A passion in the fitness industry also led her to co found Projectfit Soweto, a not for profit gym in the Morris Isaacson school in Soweto. It aims to make fitness accessible to all, and get the youth to live a healthy and active lifestlye, keeping them off the street.
